Check out David Tobey's exhibition at Pleiades Gallery 530 West 25th Street in Chelsea, NYC. David is the son of the late historical painter and muralist Alton S. Tobey and he's a professional violinist as well as a painter and sculptor. Over 300 people attended the reception on November 9th and quite a number of pieces were sold. Ed McCormack in Gallery and Studio mag described Tobey's sculpture as "[achieving] a unique draftsmanly fluidity in metal, surpassing even that of [Julio] Gonzalez". The show runs though November 25th and David's web site is at www.davidtobey.com.

Agora Gallery Presents Susan Kaufman in Lexis of AbstractionVortex Acrylic on Canvas, 49" x 34" Susan Kaufman is a soulful painter with a fervent belief in the expressive power of her art form. There is an organic quality to the work, her abstractions flow and converge with vivid colors and physical brushwork. Plantlike forms and architectural motifs are often referenced in her work. Kaufman’s extensive travel and her background in martial arts, philosophy, psychology and sociology have combined to form a deep awareness of the human condition within the constantly shifting forces of the world. She seeks to explore these concepts through her artwork, “My goal is to portray my inner and outer world perceptions in ways that invite the viewer to take a visceral and visual journey with me." Stylistically her works relate to early twentieth century abstractionists with whom she shares the belief that the language of art can provide an unadulterated mouthpiece for the soul. Kaufman has exhibited frequently in southern Florida and California and has recently exhibited in New York. She now divides her time between her studios in Miami and New York. The Lexis of AbstractionReception: Thursday, April 12, 2007 6-8 PM Exhibition Dates: 4/10/2007 - 5/1/2007 Gallery Hours: Tues-Sat 11-6
